Valenzuela mayor visits abused OFW
Mayor WES Gatchalian personally visited Veronica Amida, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who went viral on social media after sharing her ordeal of verbal and physical abuse while working as a household service worker in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Veronica, who is from Barangay Paso De Blas, was sent home to the Philippines on March 5, 2023, after her male employer took action to protect her from his abusive wife, who almost had her jailed.
To assist Veronica in starting anew, the Valenzuela City Government provided financial aid and a food pack to help her in her transition. She will also undergo medical and psychological assessment to ensure her well-being.
Mayor Gatchalian's visit to Veronica shows the city government's commitment to assisting its citizens in times of need, especially OFWs who contribute significantly to the economy.
The city government hopes to provide the necessary support and assistance to help OFWs like Veronica overcome their challenges and achieve their aspirations.
