The City of Taguig recently held a seminar entitled "Upholding Justice: Rule of Law on War of Drugs" at the New City Hall Convention Center. The event, which took place on March 17, aimed to equip police officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to lawfully combat illegal drugs and ensure successful prosecution of drug peddlers.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, in her speech, acknowledged the participants' hard work and accomplishments in fighting illegal drugs. She emphasized the importance of working together to ensure that communities are safe from the scourge of illegal drugs.

Representatives from the Taguig Public Attorney's Office (PAO), Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC), and City Prosecutor's Office discussed various topics, including the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022, arrests, searches and seizures, chain of custody, affidavit-making, jurisprudence on drug cases, acquittal in drugs cases, and acquittal for non-compliance with the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Under the leadership of Mayor Lani, Taguig City has been aggressively implementing its Zero Tolerance Policy against illegal drugs. In December 2022, the City added three more areas to its roster of drug-cleared barangays, bringing the total to six.

During the seminar, attendees heard from a range of speakers, including Taguig City Administrator Atty. Jose Luis Montales, Taguig Executive Judge Byron San Pedro, DILG Undersecretary for External Legal and Legislative Affairs Atty. Juan Victor Llmas, Southern Police District Director PBGen. Kirby John Kraft, RTC Branch 267 Judge Antonio Olivete, RTC Branch 70 Judge Bernard Bernal, Philippine National Police Chief of Police Robert Baesa, and PAO Officer-in-Charge Atty. Ariel Ruiz.

The seminar was a successful initiative, and it is hoped that the knowledge and skills gained by the police officers will help them to better combat illegal drugs in Taguig City.
