Taguig City started Tuesday its simulation rollout of the first batch of Sputnik V vaccines, stored in a specially designed insulated box since the Russian-made jabs require sub-zero temperature, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

About 20 persons belonging to the A1 (medical workers), A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (persons with comorbidities) priority groups are among the first recipients of the Russian-made vaccine. The vaccine simulation was held in Taguig's Lakeshore vaccination facility.

Dr. Jennifer Lou Lorico-de Guzman, Taguig National immunization Program head, said the insulated boxes, provided by Orca Cold Chain Solutions, can store 200 doses.

It is also equipped with a global positioning system that will allow users to track its movement.

The box can maintain the required storage temperature of Sputnik V at -18 degrees Celsius.

Taguig received an initial 3,000 Sputnik V vaccines out of the 15,000 initially delivered last May 1.

The cities of Parañaque, Manila, Makati, and Muntinlupa with ready cold storage facilities that meet the storage and handling requirements of Sputnik V have also received 3,000 doses.

The 3,000 doses allotted for the city are good only for the initial shots.

A person who received a Sputnik V jab would have to wait for 21 days before getting the second shot.

Sputnik V was found to be 91.4 percent effective in providing protection against Covid-19.
