Taguig hosts LCP event on knowledge-sharing
Taguig City recently hosted a 2-day knowledge-sharing event of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) entitled "Sustainability Enablers: Cities Achieving the SDGs" at the Seda Hotel in BGC, Fort Bonifacio from March 9-10, 2023. The event aimed to highlight the crucial role of cities in achieving inclusive, sustainable economic growth and urban development, and to bring local and international partners together to share their expertise and enrich cities' potential in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event was attended by city mayors, city planning officers, and Gender Development (GAD) focal persons from different cities in the country. The event coincided with the 2023 National Women's Month celebration, and Mayor Lani Cayetano, as the LCP's Women's Sector Representative, delivered an empowering video message emphasizing the importance of gender equality in achieving sustainability.
Senator Pia Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development, personally attended the event and stressed the importance of true sustainability in all sectors, including gender, education, and health policies to successfully achieve the SDGs.
The event featured three main presentations: Creating a Smoke-Free Generation; 5 Things Cities Get Wrong About Mobility; and the Galing Pook Foundation Best Practices Awards. The latter recognized the best practices of LGUs in local governance in promoting sustainable development.
The event's successful hosting showcased the City of Taguig's commitment to sustainability and the importance of collaboration among LGUs in achieving sustainable development.
