Taguig hosts spectacular Art Festival
The City of Taguig took center stage as it hosted the Philippine leg of the highly anticipated international graffiti, street art, and mural festival, Meeting of Styles, on Friday, May 19. The vibrant event transformed the shipping containers in TLC Park along Laguna Lake Highway (C6 Road) in Barangay Lower Bicutan into magnificent canvasses, showcasing exceptional artworks and expanding the presence of art in public spaces within the park.
With the goal of elevating the city's profile in the art world, the three-day festival brought together international artists, art collectors, and enthusiasts for a remarkable convergence of creativity. Participating artists from various countries included Promise One from Australia, N3rd1nk from Brunei, Oremos from Germany, Hardthrirteen from Indonesia, and Hoshva and Nirone from Iran. Additionally, Kaze and Koze from Malaysia, Dear from the Netherlands, Sire representing Spain, and Y? and Youngpray from Thailand showcased their exceptional talent.
Notably, the event also celebrated the contributions of renowned local artists such as Quiccs, Egg Fiasco, Chill, Flipone, Kookoo, Meow, Nevs, Nemo, and EXLD, who proudly exhibited the Filipino version of this vibrant subculture on a global platform.
The Meeting of Styles Philippines 2023 is a momentous occasion as it marks the festival's first-ever collaboration with a local government. The organizers expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the city government of Taguig for providing the venue and canvasses, creating an environment that allowed artists to freely express their creative prowess.
Mayor Lani Cayetano wholeheartedly embraced and supported the art community, emphasizing Taguig's commitment to becoming a transformative, lively, and caring city. She highlighted the city's dedication to implementing comprehensive initiatives that promote the development of the arts through various celebrations. Mayor Lani expressed her gratitude and honor for the opportunity and expressed hope that the event would inspire creative individuals, especially the younger generation, to pursue and create art.
To kick off the city's art festivities, Mayor Lani led the ceremonial spraying of graffiti, symbolizing the official start of the captivating art event. Taguig envisions the stunning murals created during the festival to become new tourist attractions, sustaining public interest in the vibrant TLC Village.
TLC Park will be open to the public from May 20 to May 21, from 10 am to 6 pm, offering an array of booths where visitors can purchase merchandise and snacks. This exciting event provides an opportunity for art enthusiasts and the general public to immerse themselves in a diverse artistic experience while supporting the local and international art community.
Taguig's hosting of Meeting of Styles demonstrates its commitment to promoting art as a catalyst for cultural growth and urban development. The city aims to create an artistic haven where creativity flourishes and serves as a platform for dialogue and inspiration.
