Quezon City welcomes Israeli foreign minister
In a momentous occasion, the City Government of Quezon City warmly received His Excellency Eli Cohen, the Foreign Minister of Israel, at the Philippine-Israel Friendship Park located in Quezon Memorial Circle. The park stands as a symbol of unity between the Philippines and Israel, commemorating the time when President Manuel Quezon opened the country's doors to 1,300 Jewish refugees.
Joining the esteemed Foreign Minister were H.E. Ilan Fluss, Israel's Ambassador to the Philippines, Ambassador Yosef Amrani, Director of Foreign Minister Diplomatic Bureau, and Ambassador Rafael Harpaz, Deputy Director General for Asia and Pacific Affairs.
Leading the welcoming committee were Mayor Joy Belmonte, City Administrator Michael Alimurung, Ms. Teresa Tirona from the City Tourism Department, Ms. Margarita Santos from the Business Permits and Licensing Department, and Atty. Dale Perral from the City Engineering Department.
Present during the courtesy visit were also the grandchildren of former President Quezon, Manolo Quezon, and Ricky Quezon-Avanceña. In addition, Ms. Cory Quirino, the granddaughter of former President Elpidio Quirino, graced the occasion.
It is worth mentioning that Quezon City established a sister-city relationship with Rishon LeZion during Mayor Belmonte's visit to Israel last May, further fostering the bond between the two cities.
The visit of His Excellency Eli Cohen and the distinguished delegation strengthens the ties between Quezon City and Israel, emphasizing the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
