Quezon City observes Earth Hour 2023
Last March 25, Quezon Memorial Circle was filled with hundreds of individuals who gathered to support the advocacy of preserving the world through Earth Hour 2023.
This event was spearheaded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the local government of Quezon City.
Among the promises made by Mayor Joy Belmonte in her speech were the addition of bike lanes and bike parks in the city. Along with this, the use of solar energy in government buildings was also guaranteed. She also ensured the installation of water fountains in schools and parks to avoid the use of plastic bottles.
WWF-PH Executive Director Katherine Custodio, Earth Hour PH National Director Atty. Angela Ibay, Climate Change Commission Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert Borje, Majority Floor Leader Coun. Doray Delarmente, Coun. Vito Generoso, and other officials of the local government were present to show their support for the program.
Earth Hour is an annual event that encourages individuals and organizations to turn off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbolic gesture of their commitment to protecting the planet.
This year's event was an opportunity for the community to come together and take action towards a sustainable futur
