Metro Manila council president joins rice price inspection
Quezon City, Philippines - In a collective effort to oversee and ensure the adherence to the mandated price ceiling for rice, Metro Manila Council President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora teamed up with several government officials for a comprehensive price inspection and monitoring.
Mayor Zamora was joined by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte. Together, they conducted an inspection at the Nepa Q-Mart in Quezon City.
The primary aim of this price inspection and monitoring initiative is to guarantee that retailers are strictly adhering to the provisions of Executive Order No. 39, Series of 2023. This executive order mandates price ceilings for rice to prevent excessive price hikes.
According to the executive order, regular-milled rice should not be sold for more than P41.00 per kilogram, while well-milled rice should have a maximum ceiling price of P45.00 per kilogram. By conducting these inspections, the government seeks to safeguard the interests of consumers and ensure that essential commodities like rice remain affordable for the public.
This collaborative effort among local and national government leaders demonstrates their commitment to maintaining stable prices and addressing economic concerns to the benefit of the citizens.
