Gawad Pilipino Awards 2023 recognize empowered women of Quezon City
Quezon City is home to some of the most empowered and inspiring women leaders in the country. In recognition of their outstanding contributions to public service, a group of Quezon City’s remarkable women leaders were recognized in the recently held Gawad Pilipino Awards.
Among the honorees were Mayor Joy Belmonte and councilors Doray Delarmente, Candy Medina, Geleen Lumbad, Raquel Malangen, and Aiko Melendez. They were included in the prestigious list of the 100 Most Powerful Women of the Year, a testament to their hard work, excellence, and dedication in public service.
Mayor Belmonte, who has been a champion for women’s rights and gender equality, expressed her gratitude for the recognition. She emphasized the importance of empowering women in leadership roles, especially in the government sector. “We need more women to step up and take on leadership roles, to be voices of reason and compassion, and to make meaningful change in our society,” she said.
Coun. Delarmente, who has been at the forefront of promoting and advancing education in the city, also shared her appreciation for the recognition. “As women leaders, we have a responsibility to serve our constituents with dedication and excellence, and to pave the way for more women to take on leadership roles in the future,” she said.
Meanwhile, Coun. Medina, who has been an advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ community and marginalized sectors, highlighted the importance of representation in government. “We need more women, especially those from underrepresented communities, to take part in the decision-making processes and to have a seat at the table,” she emphasized.
The other awardees, Coun. Lumbad, Coun. Malangen, and Coun. Melendez, have also been instrumental in promoting the welfare and interests of their constituents, particularly those who are marginalized and underserved.
The Gawad Pilipino Awards, organized by the National Gawad Pilipino Foundation, recognizes outstanding individuals, organizations, and institutions who have made significant contributions in various fields such as business, education, entertainment, and public service.
With the recognition given to these empowered women leaders, Quezon City continues to be a shining example of a city that values and promotes gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
