Belmonte attends World Tuberculosis Day 2023 

On March 24, 2023, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte graced the celebration of World Tuberculosis Day 2023 in Quezon Memorial Circle as a speaker. The event was organized by the Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT) with the theme "Tayo'y magBayanihan, TB ay Tuldukan."

The program included various activities such as the TBikseleta bike run, Zumba, and Parade of Colors. The event also awarded the winners of the Best TB-themed TikTok entries and conducted a Symbolic Graduation Ceremony for those who have recovered from TB.

Aside from Mayor Belmonte, other notable figures who attended the program were Committee on Health and Sanitation Chairperson Coun. Bernard Herrera, Department of Health (DOH-MMCHD) Regional Director Dr. Aleli Sudiacal, WHO Philippines Technical Officer Dr. Bayo Fatunmbi, DOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Beverly Ho, PhilCAT Chairperson Dr. Janice Caoili, and USAID Deputy Mission Director Rebekah Eubanks.

Representatives from the health department from various cities in NCR, government agencies, and organizations fighting against TB also joined the celebration.

The event aimed to raise awareness about tuberculosis, its symptoms, prevention, and treatment. The Philippines is one of the countries with the highest TB burden in the world, and programs like this are essential in the fight against the disease.
