PNP asks people to cooperate under alert level system
As the implementation of the granular lockdown and alert level system in Metro Manila starts today, the Philippine National Police (PNP) appealed to the public to help in ensuring the success of these new quarantine measures by being mindful of their own protection from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar explained that strictly following the minimum public health safety and other measures that include curfew and unnecessary travel are not only the first line of defense against infection but also a show of respect to those who follow the rules and a show of respect and gratitude to the health workers who have been at the frontline in the fight against the virus for more than a year now.
Based on the PNP data, a total of 224,626 violators were accosted in Metro Manila alone for violation of the minimum public health safety from August 21 to September 15 when the National Capital Region is under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.
A total of 87,729 were accosted for curfew violation and another 15,296 were also accosted for violation of the ban on unnecessary travel for non-Authorized Persons Outside Residence.
For the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal which are adjacent to Metro Manila, a total of 1,153,833 violators were accosted for violating of MPHS, curfew and prohibition on unnecessary travels from August 21 to September 15.
“We in the PNP believe that all our sacrifices for more than a year will be for nothing if we continue disregarding all the measures that we have been implementing to ensure the protection of everybody from this deadly virus,” said PGen Eleazar.
Metro Manila will start implementing the Alert Level 4 and the granular lockdown starting today, September 16. The move is to strike a balance between containing the spread of COVID-19 and reviving the economy from the adverse impacts of the pandemic.
