NPD anti-drug unit office attacked
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will investigate the strafing and grenade attack on the office of the Northern Police District - Drug Enforcement Unit (NDP - DEU) and gave the Caloocan City Police Station one week to close the case, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
“Bagama’t walang nasugatan sa nasabing insidente, importanteng malaman natin kung sino ang may kagagawan nito at kung ano ang kanilang motibo (Although no one was injured in the incident, these people should be immediately identified and be held accountable for what they did),” NCRPO chief, Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, said in a statement on Monday.
Okubo said he is personally monitoring the case, adding that local police forces were already instructed to conduct operations to arrest the perpetrators and continue the aggressive anti-illegal drugs operations and crime prevention measures.
Reports said the grenade was lobbed by two motorcycle-riding men in front of the NPD – DEU at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group North Metro Manila District Field Unit in Caloocan in the early hours of Saturday.
No one was hurt but the attack damaged at least two cars parked near the site.
Okubo also ordered the relief of NPD - DDEU chief Lt. Col. Michael Chavez, assistant chief Maj. Dennis Odtuhan and Substation 4 commander Capt. Ivan Rinquejo to pave the way for a thorough investigation.
“Hindi natin pahihintulutan ang mga indibidwal na ito na magdulot ng sakuna laban sa kaligtasan at seguridad lalo na sa ating mga nasasakupan. Sa pagkakataong ito, hinihimok ko ang ating kababayan na makipagtulungan sa inyong kapulisan. Anumang impormasyon ang inyong maibibigay ay malaking tulong sa agarang pagkakalutas at pagkakahuli ng mga taong may kinalaman dito (We will not allow these individuals to cause disaster against the safety and security of our constituents. This time, I urge our countrymen to cooperate with your police. Any information you can provide will be of great help in the immediate resolution and arrest of the people involved),” Okubo stressed.
