The Municipality of Pateros in the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded zero new cases of coronavirus disease, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

The Pateros municipal government released the latest data showing that as of Feb. 22, the town tallied zero new cases, zero recoveries, zero new deaths, and only two active cases.

Pateros is the smallest local government unit (LGU) in the NCR with an estimated population of 65,227 based on the Philippine Statistics Authority data as of May 2020 and a land area of 10.4 sq. km.

The two active cases in Pateros are in Sta. Ana, the biggest barangay. The two patients are asymptomatic and are under isolation.

As of Feb. 22, Pateros has 9,891 confirmed cases, 9,779 recoveries, and 110 deaths since the pandemic started in 2000.

According to OCTA Research’s Dr. Guido David, Pateros had zero new COVID-19 cases on Feb. 22, two on Feb. 21, two on Feb. 20, zero on Feb. 19, and Feb. 17.

Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce signed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution 22-06 in which all NCR mayors recommended to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to place Metro Manila under Alert Level 1 starting March 1 from the current Alert Level 2.

Under the resolution, the NCR mayors cited the low COVID-19 numbers in Metro Manila including a positivity rate of 4.64 percent as of Feb. 21.

The resolution stated that 16 of the 17 NCR LGUs are now classified as low-risk based on the two-week growth rate and average daily attack rate (ADAR).

“The above data manifest a continuing improvement in the COVID-19 situation in the NCR and, further considering the high vaccination rate in the Region’s target population, the Metro Manila Council has taken a uniform and united position to urge the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to place the NCR under COVID-19 Alert Level 1 Status starting on 01 March 2022.”

It added, “The Local Chief Executives of the NCR are ready and fully capable of implementing the IATF-prescribed health and safety protocols under COVID-19 Alert Level 1 Status.”
