20 EPD cops test positive for virus
The Eastern Police District (EPD) headquarters in Pasig City was placed under lockdown after 20 police officers tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
EPD director Brig. Gen. Johnson Almazan said the lockdown will pave the way for the disinfection of the police headquarters located on Caruncho Avenue in Barangay San Nicolas, Pasig.
Almazan said the lockdown, which started on Wednesday and will last until Sunday, was imposed after at least 20 EPD policemen tested positive for the disease.
“They are now on quarantine,” the police official said.
The EPD has jurisdiction over the cities of Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Marikina.
Camp Karingal, the headquarters of Quezon City Police District (QCPD), was recently placed on lockdown after 13 cops and a soldier tested positive for COVID-19.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) bared that there are currently a total of 179 policemen who had tested positive for the disease.
Following the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine, the country’s police force have been deployed on the ground to man border control points and ensure that the public observe quarantine protocols.
They are among those at risk of being exposed to the virus while serving as frontliners in the battle against the dreaded disease.
