Pasay considers granular lockdowns
Pasay City has been placed under Alert Level 3 due to increased Covid-19 cases, including suspected infections, in hospitals, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
Alert Level 3 or Code Blue means an area is under moderate to critical risk for Covid-19 and its healthcare or intensive care utilization rate has reached between 50 and 70 percent.
In response, the local government may impose more granular lockdowns which have been proven effective in bringing down active cases.
From just 92 active cases on July 30, infections jumped to 432 as of Aug. 8.
Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Monday that lockdowns will prevent further spread and local transmission of the coronavirus and its Delta variant.
“The DOH placed Pasay in Alert Level 3 or Code Blue category which means there was a marked increase in reported cases and hospitals must be prepared to attend to a potential surge of Covid-19 patients," Rubiano said in an interview.
Pasig, Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Manila, Navotas, and Parañaque are also under Alert Level 3 while Quezon City, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Makati, Malabon, San Juan and Pateros are on Alert Level 4.
Rubiano said that aside from border control measures, testing and isolation will be implemented.
Distribution of food packages to families affected by the granular lockdowns started on Sunday.
Pasay will also receive PHP356 million as enhanced community quarantine cash aid.
Four eligible members per household will get PHP1,000 each.
