Olivarez graces 2023 City Athletic Meet in Parañaque
The city of Parañaque kicked off its 2023 City Athletic Meet earlier today, led by Mayor Eric Olivarez, at the Baclaran Elementary School Central. The annual event features athletes from both public and private schools who have won in their respective categories in the preliminary level.
Mayor Eric expressed his admiration for the athletes who participated in the City Meet and gave recognition to their efforts. He announced that the winners of the competition would represent Parañaque in the National Capital Region (NCR) Palaro, while the NCR Palaro winners would advance to the Palarong Pambansa.
As an athlete in his own right, Mayor Eric emphasized the importance of sports in building discipline, perseverance, and hard work, qualities that can be applied in other aspects of life. He also pointed out that sports can serve as a healthy and positive alternative to harmful vices such as drugs and alcohol.
Furthermore, being an athlete can open doors to educational opportunities through athletic scholarships. Mayor Eric encouraged the athletes to continue their pursuit of excellence in sports and academics.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including District 1 Congressman Edwin L. Olivarez, Barangay Baclaran Captain Julius Anthony “Jun” Zaide, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Violeta Gonzales.
The City Athletic Meet is not just a competition but a celebration of the city's youth and their achievements.
