For the fourth time, Navotas received the 2022 Seal of Good Education Governance (SGEG) for its noteworthy efforts to provide quality education for the Navoteno youth.

Navotas Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Meliton Zurbano, received the award together with other school officials and representatives from the Navotas local government.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco expressed his gratitude to all education partners and stakeholders in the city.

“Thank you for ensuring that our learners receive the best quality of education even amidst difficulties and challenges,” he said.

"Let us always ensure that young Navoteños are equipped with the right knowledge, skills, and values to help them reach their full potential, achieve success, and become upstanding members of society,” he added.

Navotas grants scholarships to students who excel in academics, sports, and arts; and provides digital learning devices and materials to both students and teachers.

It also conducts an education summit, research conferences, and capacity building activities for educators and parents.

The city also continues to implement the Project Teach-a-Learning Child (TLC) wherein volunteers help learners cope with their lessons and catch up on academic tasks. Since 2020, over 400 teacher-volunteers have assisted hundreds of learners in completing their basic education and ensuring high functional literacy rates in Navotas.

"Indeed, it takes a village to raise a child. That is why we see to it that everyone in the community is involved in our efforts to get more of our children in school and complete their education," Tiangco said.

School Governing Councils are actively involved in the implementation of projects and programs that uphold education and other noteworthy causes.

Barangays help map learners in Oplan Galugad, ensure the safety of school children, and provide funding assistance for the Alternative Learning System program.

The business community compliment efforts in education with allied projects and programs such as the provision of handwashing facilities, vitamins, and medical checkup.

Meanwhile, at the height of the pandemic, tricycle drivers in the city volunteered to deliver learners' modules and other educational resources placed in NavoSchool-in-a-Box free of charge.

The Seal of Good Education Governance is conferred to local governments that have reinvented the local school board, involved the community in helping children learn well, high retention and cohort survival rates, significantly decreased the number of non- and frustrated readers, and finances programs that enhance learning performance, particularly reading competencies.
