Muntinlupa launches school-based immunization program
Muntinlupa City - The local government of Muntinlupa officially launched its school-based immunization program against the human papillomavirus (HPV) today, June 6, at Itaas Elementary School through the City Health Office-Muntinlupa (CHO).
"This campaign aims to ensure the protection of our young girls at an early age against cervical cancer," said Mayor Ruffy Biazon, emphasizing the importance of the initiative.
Dr. Juancho Bunyi, Head of CHO, added that the vaccination will also be conducted in all public elementary schools. The target is to vaccinate 1,200 young girls from Grade 4 to 6.
Present at the program were Itaas Elementary School Principal Dr. Antonio C. Gagala, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Roxas Lomeda, CHO Adolescent Program Medical Coordinator Dr. Geraldine Ordoñez-Araullo, RITM Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jemelyn U. Garcia, and other CHO staff.
Healthcare professionals highlighted the significance of protecting young girls against HPV, a virus known to cause cervical cancer. By implementing the school-based immunization program, the local government aims to create a proactive approach to healthcare and promote the overall well-being of the community.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon has identified Health as one of the priority programs under the 7K Agenda for Muntinlupa, which includes Justice, Knowledge, Development, Peace/Order, Livelihood, and Environment. This initiative aligns with the city's commitment to prioritizing the health and welfare of its residents.
The school-based immunization program against HPV underscores Muntinlupa City's proactive stance in addressing preventable diseases and promoting public health. By providing accessible healthcare services to the youth, the local government continues to take significant steps toward building a healthier and more resilient community.
