Muntinlupa hosts tourism development workshop
In adherence to Republic Act 9593, also known as the "Tourism Act of 2009," Section 37, a two-day Local Tourism Development Plan Coaching and Mentoring Workshop was conducted at the Muntinlupa Museum. The workshop was organized by the Department of Tourism - Philippines (DOT) and the Muntinlupa Tourism Culture and the Arts Department (TCAD) on May 25-26. The event aimed to establish and implement the Local Tourism Development Plan.
The workshop featured guest speakers, including Senior Tourism Operations Officer Ms. Ruth Tizon, who discussed the Tourism Situation and Trends, Orientation on Local Tourism Planning Guidebook, Profiling the Local Tourism Industry, Site Attraction Evaluation and Ranking, and Tourism Cluster Strategy. Tourism Operations Officer II Ms. Bamba Ramos facilitated the Development of Tour Circuit, SWOT Analysis, and Problem Analysis Workshops.
Various offices and organizations participated in the event, including the Environmental Protection & Natural Resources Office (EPNRO), Environmental Sanitation Center (ESC), Local Economic & Investment Promotion Office (LEIPO), Department of Agriculture-Extension Services Office (DA-ESO), Muntinlupa Gender and Development (GAD) Office, City Architect’s Office, City Planning and Development Office, City Zoning Administration Office, City Budget and Management Department, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun), barangays, Ms. Elvie Sanchez-Quiazon of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and Councilor Jedi Presnedi.
The workshop aimed to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop a comprehensive Local Tourism Development Plan. It emphasized the importance of aligning tourism efforts with national policies and guidelines outlined in the Tourism Act of 2009. By doing so, Muntinlupa City aims to harness its tourism potential, boost local economy, and provide a memorable experience for both residents and visitors.
During the workshop, participants engaged in interactive discussions, practical exercises, and group activities to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of Muntinlupa City's tourism industry. They also focused on identifying potential tourist attractions and developing tour circuits to enhance visitor experiences.
The presence of various government offices, educational institutions, and private sector representatives underscored the collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism development. The active participation of stakeholders ensures that the Local Tourism Development Plan reflects the aspirations and needs of the local community while adhering to national standards.
City officials, including Councilor Jedi Presnedi, expressed their gratitude to the Department of Tourism and the Muntinlupa Tourism Culture and the Arts Department for organizing the workshop. They highlighted the significance of the event in strengthening the city's tourism sector and promoting Muntinlupa as a must-visit destination.
The Local Tourism Development Plan Coaching and Mentoring Workshop serves as a stepping stone for Muntinlupa City's journey towards becoming a premier tourism hub. Through strategic planning and collaboration, the city aims to showcase its unique cultural heritage, natural attractions, and vibrant community to both domestic and international tourists.
