BFAR donates 80,000 tilapia fingerlings to Muntinlupa
In a significant move to support the aquatic ecosystem in Laguna de Bay, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) generously donated 80,000 tilapia fingerlings to the Muntinlupa City Government. This initiative, conducted through the Lake Management Office (LMO), aims to bolster the ongoing Quarterly Lake Seeding program, dedicated to preserving the ecological balance of freshwater fish species within the lake.
The donation, which took place on September 20, 2023, signifies a strong commitment from both BFAR and the local government of Muntinlupa to sustain the health and diversity of aquatic life in the region. This collaborative effort ensures that Laguna de Bay continues to thrive as a vital freshwater resource.
Present during the lake seeding activity were Ms. Lorna B. Misa, Acting Head of LMO, and members of the LMO Operations Division. They were joined by the Philippine National Police Maritime Group under the leadership of PEMS Benito B. Lozano Jr. The combined dedication of these organizations underscores the importance of safeguarding the natural environment and promoting sustainable practices in the management of aquatic resources.
The contribution of 80,000 tilapia fingerlings by BFAR serves as a positive step towards maintaining the ecological integrity of Laguna de Bay and securing the livelihood of the communities that depend on its resources. Such initiatives exemplify the collaborative spirit required to protect and nurture the environment for future generations.
