FEU-Diliman, UST beat rivals in UAAP Girls’ Volleyball Tournament

, Far Eastern University-Diliman secured a triumphant win against De La Salle Zobel with a score of 25-17, 25-17, 25-10 in the UAAP Season 86 high school girls’ volleyball tournament held at the Adamson University gym in Ermita, Manila on Thursday.

The Baby Tamaraws, boasting an impressive record of 8-3, are set to face the undefeated Adamson Baby Falcons (11-0) in the final match of the elimination round on Sunday. If Adamson secures a victory, it will secure an outright final berth, leading to a step-ladder format. On the other hand, if FEU emerges victorious, the Final Four will follow the traditional format.

Lovely Lopez and Clarisse Loresco showcased their skills with back-to-back attacks, propelling the Baby Tamaraws to a commanding 20-8 lead in the third set.

Despite facing training challenges due to conflicting schedules, FEU-D coach RJ Del Rosario expressed determination to prepare for the upcoming match against Adamson. Del Rosario emphasized the importance of a focused mindset to secure the second-place position.

In another remarkable match, the University of Santo Tomas outplayed Ateneo with a dominating score of 25-13, 25-10, 25-15, allowing them to share the No. 2 spot with FEU-D.

UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez highlighted the team's commitment to implementing their training strategies during the game, especially with the upcoming match against National University Nazareth School (NUNS) on Saturday.

In a separate game, NUNS displayed their prowess by defeating University of the Philippines Integrated School with a score of 25-7, 25-10, 25-7, securing fourth place with a 7-4 standing. A victory for NUNS against UST could lead to a three-way tie for second place.

NUNS head coach Norman Miguel emphasized the team's determination to reclaim the championship, urging the players to maintain their thirst for success since their initial loss to FEU.

De La Salle Zobel holds a 3-8 record, followed by Ateneo at 2-9, while UPIS remains winless in 12 outings. The competition intensifies as teams strive to secure their positions in the tournament.
