Staying ‘til the Holidays

There's a slight change in the mini Cabinet revamp schedule.

Latest we heard from the Palace by the River is that Junior will be making the announcement at the onset of the New Year, allowing those who will be given the pink slip to spend the Christmas season in their fiefdom.

This includes incumbent Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, who we’ve reported is slowly packing up his personal trinkets and other things in his fifth floor office with a bay window that provides him an excellent view of the famous Manila sunset.

His replacement, Congressman Ralph Recto will be ready by then.

Mum's the word in the DOF office. As I write this, it is unsure if Diokno still leaves for Dubai to accompany Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ma. Antonio Yulo-Loyzaga to lead the Philippine delegation to the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

Early today, Junior has decided to cancel his COP28 attendance with an excuse of wanting to concentrate on the possible release of 17 Filipino seafarers, who were held hostage in the Red Sea.

It would have been the 19th overseas trip of Junior since his assumption into office on June 30, 2022 or about 18 months ago. This means, Junior has practically been out of the country every month.

Also, staying ‘til the Holiday season is Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual. Despite his vehement denial, Palace sources point to Robinsons Land President Frederick Go, the concurrent Presidential Adviser on Investment and Economic Affairs, will assume Pascual’s portfolio.

Go, for the first time in all of the Presidential travels, accompanied Junior on his trip to Saudi Arabia last October to attend the meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Cooperation Council for Arab States of the Gulf.

Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista is staying alive! Latest words from the Palace is that Bautista, who had earlier been rumored to be on the boarding area already and will be replaced by Former President and chief executive Officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority Vivencio "Vince" Bringas Dizon, will be retained.

Based on my perspective, this is positive news.

Well as they say, it ain’t over til the fat lady sings. Watching how this mini-revamp will unravel.
