Filipina fencer undefeated on third day of US NCAA
Filipina fencer Samantha Catantan of the Penn State's women’s fencing team remained undefeated during Day 3 of the US NCAA Championships on Saturday, according to a report by GMA News.
According to a report by the Penn State University Athletics, Samantha entered the top five overall after three rounds of competition.
She led all foil fencers, winning all 14 of her bouts. Her senior teammate Lodovica Bicego, meanwhile, won ten of her 14 bouts and earned a .714 overall win percentage.
This is Samantha’s first NCAA tournament appearance. In 2019, she represented the Philippines in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
She also made history in October of the same year as the first Filipino athlete to win the gold medal in the Asian Under-23 Fencing Championship in Thailand.
