Ivana Alawi has refuted claims that she is in a relationship with Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez, asserting instead that she is currently dating a "respectable businessman."

The actress-vlogger set the record straight through a social media post on Saturday to quash the "false accusations and hurtful words" directed at her family.

"Hindi po ako ang nasasabing girlfriend ni Mayor Albee Benitez," Alawi said.

"I am currently seeing someone who makes me happy. All I can say is that he is a respectable businessman and not a Politician. Sana this helps clear my name and clarify all rumors," the "Batang Quiapo" star added.

Alawi said she had met Benitez, whom she described as "accommodating and friendly," during a work trip to Bacolod.

"At hindi lang sya ang politikong nakilala ko at naging kaibigan," she said, adding that it would be the first and last time she would speak about the issue.

In a separate statement, Benitez denied any romantic involvement with the actress and asked the public to respect for privacy of all parties involved.

He further explained that his professional interaction with various celebrities was due to his role as a film and TV program producer in his private capacity.

"At this moment, my primary focus is on safeguarding the interests of Bacolod City," the mayor said.

Rumors of a romantic relationship between Alawi and Benitez emerged last month when they were reportedly seen together at an airport.

Purported photos of them taken in Baguio and Japan also recently surfaced online.
