Former ABS-CBN vice chair Jake Almeda Lopez dies at 95

Former ABS-CBN vice chairman Augusto "Jake" Almeda Lopez passed away at the age of 95.

His passing was reported by ABS-CBN and Radyo 630.

A Holy mass and memorial service for Lopez are scheduled at the ABS-CBN Chapel on Monday, February 5.

Details about Lopez's wake and funeral have yet to be announced.

Lopez, a lawyer and a war veteran, was awarded in June 2023 the US Congressional Gold Medal, a prestigious distinction given to civilians who exhibited valor and loyalty during World War II. 

He joined ABS-CBN in 1961 as personnel manager and became the network's general manager in 1966.

Lopez spearheaded the company’s name change from Bolinao Electronics to ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation in 1967 and oversaw the construction of the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center from 1967 to 1968.

Throughout his career, he served as ABS-CBN vice chairman and as a board member of various Lopez Group companies, including the First Philippine Holdings Corporation, First Philippine Industrial Corporation, and ADTEL Inc.

He retired from the Lopez Group in 2008.
