Manila International Film Fest coming to Hollywood on November 2
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is launching its global edition, the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on November 2.
"The Hollywood edition is part of the celebration marking the 50th edition of the MMFF in 2024," it said.
According to the MMFF, three select local films will be shown during the launch in Los Angeles. These are "About Us But Not About Us" starring Romnick Sarmenta and Elijah Canlas, directed by Jun Lana; "Here Comes the Groom" starring Enchong Dee and Miles Ocampo, directed by Chris Martinez; and "Love You Long Time" starring Carlo Aquino and Eisel Serrano, directed by Jaime Habac "JP" Jr.
The said films were first screened in the country last April during the inaugural summer edition of the MMFF.
Meanwhile, the eight entries of this year's MMFF, which are usually shown in Philippine cinemas on December 25, will also be screened in Los Angeles in January 2024.
These are:
- "A Mother and Son's Story" starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards, directed by Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario
- "(K)ampon" starring Beauty Gonzales and Derek Ramsay, directed by King Palisoc
- "Penduko," starring Christine Reyes and Matteo Guidicelli, directed by Jason Paul Laxamana
- "Rewind" starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar
The remaining four films will be announced soon.
Stars and filmmakers behind the eight entries will be invited to grace the event, according to the MMFF.
The festival is expected to draw a diverse audience from all over California, home to the biggest Filipino population in the United States. #
