“Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train” made history as the first non-Hollywood and non-United States film to top the worldwide box office chart, according to a report by GMA News.

According to an Anime News Network report, its worldwide tally has reached $474.6 million with $435 million earned outside the United States and $39.6 million inside USA.

Last week, the Demon Slayer Twitter account announced that the movie is the number one film in the US after debuting with over $21 million in the US box office in April.

"Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train" is a direct sequel to the anime, which was based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotoge.

It follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who makes the journey of becoming a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko is turned into a demon.

Last year, “Demon Slayer” dethroned Studio Ghibli’s “Spirited Away” as Japan’s number one film in the box office.
