PH set to acquire world class firetrucks, equipment
FIREFIGHTING capability of firemen in the Philippines will never be the same again...
This scenario is anticipated by firefighting experts and even by plain fire department personnel as they expressed elation over the prospects of having the world's leading firefighting equipment will soon be utilized in their respective "lines of duties".
Following the marching orders from President Duterte, the Bureau of Fire Protection is set to acquire world class firefighting equipment and fire trucks.
ROSENBAUER of Austria, the world’s leading manufacturer of firefighting equipment has decided to participate in the bidding for the purchase and acquisition of top class quality firetrucks to further boost the Bureau of Fire Protection's (BFP) ongoing modernization program
The Austrian company recently bagged the fire trucks and equipment contract for the Dubai International Airport after undergoing stringent a procurement process.
Rosenbauer, which has introduced several firefighting innovations in its 150-year history, won the contract for the supply of fire trucks in Dubai last July 4, 2018.
That supply deal has lend credence to the company’s tag as the world’s number one firefighting equipment supplier.
In fact, per the company’s financial performance for the first six months of the year show that it now has a backlog of Euro $1.03 billion as its innovative firefighting equipment has piqued the interest of many countries all over the world.
So far, majority of firefighters in the country who have tried the Rosenbauer fire trucks prefer these top-of-the-line equipment for its sheer firefighting power.
For them, the use of top quality and most modern fire trucks would ensure the over-all efficiency and firefighting capabilities of personnel during fire incidents and emergencies.
Cutting Edge technology
Rosenbauer water cannons can spew water up to 62 meters away and can be trained up burning building of up to 24 meters or eight storeys high.
Aside from this, the fire trucks are also equipped with quick-response hoses that can deliver chemical suppressants especially designed for fires that originate from chemical and gas.
Two quick responses hoses, so called because they could be mobilized immediately as they are just latched onto the side panels of Rosenbauer fire trucks, could be dispatched while the water cannons are prepared.
Firemen who are familiar with Rosenbauer fire trucks say that the water cannons can deliver water that are three times stronger than many of the fire trucks, many of which have been procured during the Marcos era.
Firefighting experts across the globe have said that agencies and fire departments should allow water tank made of PPE (polyprolyne) instead of just Stainless Stell.
PPE doesn’t corrode and lightweight. This is now the standard in first world countries.
Rosenbauer fire trucks can hold 5,000 liters of water while its hoses are resistant with corrosion due to the use of fibre-reinforced plastic.
Fire hoses, especially those with different make, are subject to what is termed as “galvanic corrosion” due to the use of dirty water which happens when the firemen get their water from canals for their firefighting needs.
Corrosion could lead to leaks in the water tanks that could affect the firefighting capability of fire trucks.
The Rosenbauer fire trucks have 240 hp engines to allow it to go up steep inclines and were so designed with firefighting capability in mind. It has side lockers where quick-response hoses can be mobilized and it is made of light alloy to prevent corrosion.
These Austrian-made fire trucks can also carry up to seven firefighters safely enclosed inside air-conditioned cabs unlike other fire trucks where firemen risk falling as they just hang onto the fire trucks in going to fire incidents. ###
