MRT-3 installs 292 CCTV cameras
The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has completed upgrading security across all of its facilities with the installation of 292 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the MRT-3 said CCTV rehabilitation is now 100 percent complete, with the newly installed cameras all capable of “high resolution” video output.
“Ang CCTV cameras ay gumagana 24 oras, at nakatutulong sa pagtitiyak ng seguridad sa lahat ng mga nasasakupang lugar ng MRT-3 (These CCTV cameras are operational 24 hours and will help provide security in all areas covered by the MRT-3),” the MRT-3 said.
Of the installed cameras, it said 10 were installed at the MRT-3 depot, 20 each at North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, GMA-Kamuning, Ortigas, and Guadalupe stations, 24 at Cubao station, 18 at Santolan station, 31 at Shaw Boulevard station, 23 each at Boni and Buendia stations, 22 each at Ayala and Taft Avenue stations, and 19 at Magallanes station.
These cameras, it said, would also help the MRT-3’s security team respond rapidly to any incidents, especially unlawful activities.
“Bahagi ang paglalagay ng mga bagong CCTV cameras ng malawakan at komprehensibong rehabilitasyon ng MRT-3, sa direktiba ni DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade (Installation of these CCTV cameras is part of the comprehensive rehabilitation of the MRT-3, based on the directive of DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade),” the MRT-3 said.
In May, an MRT-3 train car and other structures along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) were vandalized with the word “CRANK”.
In response, the MRT-3 tightened security around its premises and deployed roving security personnel as well as repositioning its CCTV cameras to cover “high-security zones” and more areas.
