Maynilad faces over P27-million fine
Maynilad is set to settle over P27 million in rebates to its clients affected by water service interruptions in southern Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said in a report by CNN Philippines.
The amount is reasonably determined by the MWSS Regulatory Office for customers within the Putatan Water Treatment Plant Supply Zone in Muntinlupa City, the regulator said.
According to the MWSS, consumers were deprived of 24-hour water service from December 2022 to January 2023.
Meanwhile, Maynilad said it has agreed on the rebate after reviewing the causes of the service interruptions and affected areas in the south.
“Since the individual rebate amount depends on the experience in the specific areas, it is best for consumers to get the details from the Public Information Drive of the MWSS RO,” Maynilad said in a statement.
The number of consumers who will receive rebates in their February bill is yet to be determined by the MWSS.
Maynilad added that maintenance activities at its water treatment plans in Putatan, Muntinlupa are ongoing.
“We are working round-the-clock to fully restore water service at the soonest possible time. Our mobile water tankers continue to do the rounds of affected areas meantime,” Maynilad said.
The water and sewage agency earlier warned Maynilad of possible sanctions over unexplained water interruptions in Metro Manila and nearby Cavite.
The MWSS added that Maynilad has not been disseminating necessary public advisories and notices regarding water service interruption schedules.
Maynilad spokesperson Jennifer Rufo said the water production of the treatment plant in Muntinlupa is "currently reduced owing to damage in the facility’s sludge removal equipment."
Maynilad said it aims to complete the construction of a new treatment plant in Poblacion, Muntinlupa by year-end to address the issue.
