Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos said no permit is required in opening a community pantry in the city, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

The mayor made the announcement as she lauded the efforts of the individuals who have set up community pantries all throughout the metro and nearby provinces to help people who have been affected by the pandemic.

“We are happy to see the spirit of bayanihan come alive during these trying times. We welcome all forms of help for less fortunate Filipinos brothers and sisters, be it from the government, corporations, or individuals.” Abalos said.

“The city of Mandaluyong will not require any permit for community pantries. This is a laudable socio-civic initiative that must be encouraged,” she added.

The mayor, however, reminded her constituents that despite how noble community pantries are, they are still not exempted from the laws and ordinances of the city.

“Hence, we encourage community pantries here in the city to coordinate with their respective barangays. In this manner, we could help them choose the best location where most people could benefit and at the same time, there would be no obstructions,” Abalos said.

She said that barangay personnel could also help in the enforcement of the minimum public safety protocols.
