Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Philippines, Department of Public Services-Manila, Environmental Management Bureau - Solid Waste Management Division, DENR National Capital Region, and Metropolitan Environmental Office - West gathered to discuss the ongoing project "Promoting Action on Plastic Pollution from Source to Sea in Asia and the Pacific" on March 16.

The project aims to reduce marine plastic pollution and restore river and ocean health through flagship ocean programs such as coastal resilience, plastic-free oceans, ocean finance, and sustainable seafood. The ADB recognizes the urgency of addressing plastic pollution, which threatens marine life and ecosystems, and ultimately, human health.

The representatives from the Philippine environmental agencies expressed their support for the project and discussed ways to collaborate in implementing solutions to address plastic pollution. They emphasized the importance of proper waste management and the need for behavioral change among the public to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The ADB also emphasized the importance of involving various stakeholders in the project, including local governments, businesses, and civil society organizations, to ensure a comprehensive and effective approach to addressing plastic pollution. The project is part of ADB's efforts to promote sustainable development in the Asia and Pacific region and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
