Manila Mayor Joins Norwegian Ambassador to Launch Plastic Smart Cities Initiative
Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, together with Norwegian Ambassador H.E. Christian Halaas Lyster, participated in the launch of the Plastic Smart Cities' Solutions Providers by World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature Philippines on Tuesday, September 19.
During the event, Ambassador Halaas Lyster and WWF No Plastics in Nature Initiative National Lead, Plastic Smart Cities Project Manager Czarina Constantino-Panopio, presented Mayor Lacuna-Pangan with seven concrete solutions to address plastic waste challenges.
These solutions encompass a wide range of initiatives, including the promotion of plastic-free cleaning products, the establishment of modular Material Recovery Facilities, and the introduction of Bokashi composting techniques. These measures will be carried out through collaborations with local organizations and social enterprises.
The City of Manila has been actively involved in the implementation of the Plastic Smart Cities project by the WWF. The initiative's primary goal is to achieve a significant reduction of at least 30% in plastic waste leakage within the city.
By collaborating with the WWF and other partners, Mayor Lacuna-Pangan aims to advance the city's sustainability efforts and contribute to a cleaner and more environmentally responsible urban environment.
