Mandaluyong shortens curfew by 2 hours

Mandaluyong City shorted its curfew by two hours to start at 10 p.m. and last until 5 a.m., as the local government considered that working residents and those outside their homes might find it difficult to return home because of the limited transportation options.

Under Ordinance No. 783, series of 2020, the new curfew period has been shortened from the previous 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

The local government said curfew hours have been adjusted as “more people might experience hard times to go back to their homes” at exactly 8 p.m. and might lead to residents being apprehended for violating the curfew since operations of public transport remain limited.

“There is a need to relax the curfew hours since public cooperation with virus-control measures—including no social gatherings and people keeping a safe distance—are already practiced and in place aside from the normal health standards and protocols imposed by the city and national governments,” the measure stated.

The city government announced the new curfew hours on Wednesday (June 17) after the ordinance was signed by Mayor Carmelita Abalos.

Based on the ordinance, the curfew covers “all persons in the City of Mandaluyong” and will remain in effect during the period of community quarantine imposed by the national government.

President Duterte on Monday extended the imposition of general community quarantine in the National Capital Region (NCR) to June 30.
