Barangay Plainview in Mandaluyong City recently conducted a vaccination drive against measles and rubella for children aged 1-6 years old, attended by Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) Dir. IV Aleli Annie Grace Sudiacal, City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Abalos, Barangay Captain Michael Garcia, and Ciara Marie Foundation Co-Founder and President Charisse Marie Abalos-Vargas.

The vaccination drive aims to protect the children against the highly contagious and potentially dangerous diseases. Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos encourages parents to complete the vaccine to give their children added protection and to prevent them from getting sick.

Measles and rubella are highly infectious and can cause severe health complications, especially for children with weak immune systems. According to the World Health Organization, measles remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine.

In line with the government's goal of eradicating these diseases, local health officials, together with the barangay and foundation officials, emphasized the importance of immunization and urged parents to have their children vaccinated. They also assured the residents that the vaccines are safe and have undergone extensive testing.

Aside from the vaccination drive, the barangay and local health officials also conducted an information campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of immunization and the risks of not getting vaccinated. They also answered questions from concerned parents and addressed any misconceptions about the vaccine.

The successful vaccination drive in Barangay Plainview serves as a model for other communities to follow. With the collaboration of government officials, health workers, and private organizations, the fight against measles and rubella can be won, and the lives of children can be saved. Parents are encouraged to coordinate with their barangay health centers and local health offices to inquire about the availability of vaccines and the schedule of vaccination drives.
