Las Pinas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar on Friday, Jan. 7, said the city government has it made it mandatory for residents and visitors to wear their face masks, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

Aguilar said the City Council passed and approved City Ordinance 1869, Series of 2020, requiring the use of face masks or other similar protective paraphernalia or equipment.

She said the reminder to residents on the imposition of mandatory use of face mask is very important amid the threat of increasing number of COVID-19 cases brought about by the Omicron variant.

The mayor said the National Capital Region is now at high risk due to surging COVID-19 cases.

Aguilar urged those who remain unvaccinated residents to get jabbed for their protection against the virus.

She said the city government already inoculated a total of 1,103,176 individuals for the adult and pediatric population.

The mayor said 540,148 already received their first dose, 516,196 received their second dose, while 56,193 residents already received their booster shots.
