LTO enforcers to wear body cameras
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday said it will launch the use of body-worn cameras for their enforcers to prevent bribery, according to a report by GMA News.
“Kaakibat po nitong hand-held device, ilulunsad din natin 'yung ating mga body camera and this time with functioning audio,” LTO Executive Director Giovanni Lopez told Dobol B TV.
“So lahat ng mga bagay-bagay na pamamaraan na sa tingin naman po ng LTO at ni [Assistance Secretary Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade] para po maiwasan po natin ang pangongotong ay ginagawa po natin,” he added.
According to Lopez, LTO officers will be required to keep their body cameras on while they are on duty.
On Monday, the LTO announced that it will start using an automated handheld device for the issuance of tickets to traffic violators by next week. Under the Phase 2 of its implementation, Lopez said the LTO will accept cashless payments.
Authorities said these will help cut down on bribery and tampering of tickets.
