Foodpanda joins celebration of 8th National Bike Day
As part of its goal to promote sustainability, leading quick commerce digital platform foodpanda supported this year’s celebration of National Bike Day on November 27, led by the National Bicycle Organization (NBO) and the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR), together with city mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR).
In 2020, Former President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 1052 declaring every 4th Sunday of November as the National Bicycle Day. This annual occasion aims to show unity amongst the cycling and environmental community and push for a transformed bicycle-friendly Philippines.
At the 8th National Bike Day event, a 50-kilometer bike ride was held at kilometer zero at the host city’s Makati City Hall. Along with other partners such as Philippine National Police (PNP), and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the city governments of Pasay, Manila, Quezon, Pasig, Taguig, and Makati also headed the event highlighting the combined efforts of the cities to promote cycling as an alternative mode of transportation and raise climate change awareness.
“Biking has always been ingrained in our business operations and proactive initiatives towards sustainability. So, it’s only fitting that we prioritize this as one of the primary programs of our sustainability campaign,” said foodpanda Philippines Operations Director Patricia Jacinto during the short program after the bike ride. “We are glad to participate in this year’s National Bike Day and happy to bring along our own foodpanda employees, partners, and Ka-Panda partner bikers to attend. Our sincerest thanks also to NBO, government agencies and local government units involved for letting us provide our support in promoting this advocacy.”
The quick commerce platform recently launched its sustainability program, “Let’s do our Pau-rt,” which encourages its community of employees, vendors, delivery partners, consumers, and other stakeholders to take part in taking care of the environment. The promotion of bicycle use is one of its flagship programs anchored in the company’s sustainable lifestyle campaign.
Recently, foodpanda also supported the Bisikleta Iwas Droga initiative of the Dangerous Drugs Broad (DDB), PNP, and MMDA in its return this year. Various bike enthusiast groups, including foodpanda’s partner delivery bikers, joined the cycling event to support the government’s advocacy against drug use by utilizing bicycles and living a healthy life.
NBO expressed its gratitude to foodpanda for joining their cause. “We salute foodpanda for leveraging their technology and platform to promote causes like this. This partnership is of great value, and we thank them for their continued support in our advocacy,“ Benedict Camara, NBO Director.
“By bringing together our various stakeholders, partners, and the public sector to support this worthwhile cause, we can build an ecosystem with better mobility solutions that’s good for business, people, health, and the environment. We encourage everyone - Let’s Do Our Pau-rt and turn daily habits into eco-conscious habits,” Jacinto added.
foodpanda is set to support more sustainability activities, especially cycling events, in the coming months as part of their “Let’s do our Pau-rt” sustainability program, with NBO as their official partner.
