DOTr to fast-track construction of EDSA greenways project
The Department of Transportation is soliciting the cooperation of various agencies and private sector partners in fast-tracking the implementation of the EDSA Greenways Project.
With an aim to further elevate our public transport systems and reaffirm our commitment to a safer, inclusive and sustainable public transport, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) together with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine National Police (PNP), SMART-PLDT, Eastern Telecommunications, and Converge officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the EDSA Greenways Project today, 25 September 2023.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed his desire to fast-track the project to provide seamless connectivity and emphasized its importance in vying for a sustainable public transport system.
"I cannot over-emphasize the value of the EDSA Greenways Project in providing sustainable mobility options. We want to fast-track this project to be able to connect pedestrian networks to train stations along EDSA and enhance the overall urban environment and transport connectivity in the identified areas," Sec. Bautista said.
Meanwhile, DOLE Sec. Bienvenido Laguesma expressed his support to the project and highlighted the programs of DOLE to help the affected individuals of the EDSA Greenways Project.
"Layon ng kasalukuyang kasunduan na mas palakasin pa ang ugnayan at pagsasanib pwersa ng DOTr at DOLE, partikular sa pamimigay ng cash o livelihood assistance program para sa mga apektadong indibidwal ng EDSA Greenways Project," Sec. Laguesma said.
The EDSA Greenways Project is a five-kilometer elevated walkway along EDSA that will connect MRT-3 stations with other modes of transportation. The project includes improvement of pedestrian facilities and enhancing accessibility.
