A bag containing a huge amount of cash along with other personal belongings was turned over to airport authorities by a building attendant of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Saturday, November 27.

The airport personnel, a 29-year-old resident of Barangay Baltao in Pasay City, was identified as Jhun M. Telewik, a building attendant of NAIA Terminal 2.

According to Mr. Telewik, of Front Runners Property Maintenance and General Services Corporation, MIAA service contractor, he saw a bag in one of the gang chairs at the departure area of NAIA Terminal 2 at around 11:30 in the morning of November 27 while collecting garbage.

While doing his rounds the second time, he noticed that the bag was still there. Telewik immediately asked assistance from Philippine Airlines ground attendants and sought for the owner through the terminal paging system. Despite numerous announcements, no one came forward to claim nor inquire about the bag.

Telewik then turned over the bag to the Terminal 2 Lost and Found Office where during inventory, it was discovered that it contained a huge amount of cash and other personal belongings.

When asked how he felt when he discovered the contents of the bag, Mr Telewik said, “Hindi ko inisip yung halaga, mas inisip ko yung may-ari dahil baka mas may kailangan siyang importanteng bagay na nasa loob ng bag”.

Since the bag does not contain any identification or document that could identify the owner, the MIAA Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) where the bag was eventually turned over, is currently coordinated with PAL for a possible lead.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal commended the building attendant for his honesty and integrity in line of duty.

“Nakakaataba ng puso na sa kabila ng paghihirap na dulot ng pandemiya, may mga tao pa rin na nananatiling tapat sa kanilang sinumpaang tungkulin kahit sa harap ng nakakasilaw na tukso,”

“I salute Mr. Telewik for his great honesty. I am sure there are still more equally dedicated workers in our midst here in NAIA,” GM Monreal Added.

Today, someone who introduced himself as the son of the owner, claimed the bag from the MIAA IID Division. The claimant had with him supporting documents to prove that his father is the rightful owner of the bag. Due diligence was conducted by the MIAA IID before finally releasing to the claimant the bag containing huge amount of money. Out of gratitude, and for his show of honesty, Mr Telewik was handed 100 US dollars by the claimant.

Mr. Jhun M. Telewik has been in the service as an airport building attendant since 2017. A commendation will be awarded to him by MIAA in recognition of a job well done.
