1 million Pfizer vaccine doses arrive in PH on Sept. 22
Over 1 million doses of procured Pfizer vaccines arrived in the country on Wednesday, September 22, the biggest single delivery of procured Pfizer vaccines delivered so far, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
The Air Hongkong plane carrying 1,028,430 Pfizer doses landed past 9 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Of this shipment, 128,700 shots were delivered to Cebu City today at around 6:35 p.m., while 87,750 doses will be shipped to Davao City via Flight on Thursday morning, September 23.
The remaining 811,980 doses will be transported to the vaccine storage firm Pharmaserv Express in Marikina City.
Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, National Task Force Against (NTF) COVID-19 special adviser, said this latest Pfizer shipment will be deployed to local government units that have the capacity to store the vaccines using ultra-low storage freezers.
“It (Pfizer vaccines) will still go mostly outside Metro Manila, that means region 4, region 4-A, region 7, and region 11 in Davao,” Herbosa said.
He said that almost 70% of residents in Metro Manila are now fully vaccinated, while 98% have already received the first dose.
“Most of the newest doses are going to regions where the vaccination rates are lower, parang mga 10% palang or less in some areas. We’re distributing the vaccines to those areas,” Herbosa explained.
The country expects another batch of procured Pfizer vaccines consisting of 728,920 doses to arrive on Thursday, September 23.
A total of 65,882,680 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from various manufacturers have been delivered to the country since February.
Lucy Mason, economic officer, US Embassy; Dr. Ma Paz Corrales, NTF medical consultant; and Health Undersecretary Ma. Carolina Vidal-Taiño also witnessed the arrival of the vaccines.
