Davao cop lauded for teaching kids

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, on Thursday commended a police officer in Davao del Norte who continues to help deliver learning modules and teach children in a far-flung village despite having a paralyzed right hand after being shot by New People's Army (NPA) members, according to a  report by Philippine News Agency.

Pat. Noel Amor remains unfazed by the experience and continues to deliver education to the kids in the geographically isolated village of Dagohoy in Talaingod town.

Eleazar commended Amor for continuing to provide public service beyond duty despite his condition.

“Saludo ako kay Patrolman Amor dahil hindi niya iniinda ang kanyang kondisyon makapagtaguyod lang ng kailangang serbisyo sa Barangay Dagohoy. Mas iniisip niya ang kapakanan at pangangailangan sa edukasyon ng kabataan sa komunidad kaysa sa sarili (I salute Patrolman Amor because he does not think of his condition just to be able to provide the necessary services in Barangay Dagohoy. He is more concerned with the welfare and educational needs of the youth in the community than himself),” Eleazar said in a statement.

He also assured that due recognition will be given to Amor for his dedication to police service.

Amor, a professional teacher, and other members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11 (RMFB-11) have been teaching children in Km. 31 of Barangay Dagohoy how to read and write.

Most of the children from the indigenous community of the village do not know how to read and write due to the lack of educational facilities.

Amor, despite being not fully recovered yet from the NPA attack, and his colleagues have been helping the kids attain basic literacy, through learning modules.

He was ambushed by NPA rebels in an attempt to scare the policemen from pursuing education for children in Barangay Dagohoy and nearby areas.

Eleazar also tasked the PNP Health Service to coordinate with Amor for any assistance that the PNP could provide for his full recovery.

He also cited other members of the RMFB-11 for joining the effort to deliver basic education to the children in the barangay.

“Sana marami pang pulis ang tumahak ng landas na tinatahak ngayon ni Patrolman Amor at ng kanyang mga kasamahan (Hopefully, more policemen will follow the path that Patrolman Amor and his colleagues are now taking),” he added.
