The Valenzuela Classic mounted an amazing comeback while the Basilan Steel showed defensive prowess as the two teams both won in overtime matches in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season at the Valenzuela City Astrodome on Wednesday, June 26.

Down by three at 78-75 with two seconds to go, the Valenzuela Classic surged ahead thanks to Chris De Chavez’s spinning step back triple, which forced the game against the Bataan Risers into overtime at 78-78.

In overtime, Valenzuela dominated throughout the five minutes, starting with Reneford Ruaya and Paolo Hubalde’s back-to-back layups, bringing the score to 82-79, and ending with another three pointer from De Chavez and another layup from Ruaya.

Valenzuela beat Bataan, 92-86.

Meanwhile, the Basilan Steel held the Pampanga Giant Lanterns at bay in overtime with their powerful defense, preventing the latter from scoring from the field.

The Steel’s Jay Collado and Gab Dagangon sunk a triple each in the final 43 seconds of the OT game, dooming the Lanterns with a 83-74 victory.
