The National Bureau of Investigation on Monday announced the arrest in Taguig City of a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group.
In a statement released Monday, NBI director Dante Gierran said the suspected Abu Sayyaf member, Salahim Dawani, alias Abu Moadz, was arrested in an operation on March 6, 2019.
Dawani is wanted by the Basilan Regional Trial Court in connection with the kidnapping of some workers of the Golden Harvest Plantation in Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan, in 2001.
Case witnesses said Abu Moadz was with the group that burned down houses in the area and decapitated plantation workers Crisanto Suela and Primitivo Falcasantos.
According to the NBI, Moadz was also among those who served as augmentation force to the Abu Sayyaf brigands who kidnapped victims at the diving resort in Sipadan, Pulao, Sabah, Malaysia, on April 23, 2000. He also helped guard the kidnap victims when they were brought to the towns of Talipao and Patikul in Sulu, the NBI added.
