Taguig's Covid-19 response hailed as victory
National Policy against Covid-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. lauded Taguig City for its victorious efforts in responding to the health crisis, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
Galvez, also Presidential Peace Adviser, said good leadership is vital in implementing policies and protocols to flatten the curve of the Covid-19.
"Sa lahat po ng mga pinupuntahan naming mga lugar, talaga pong nakikita po namin na ang (In all places that we are visiting, we really see that) leadership is the key," he said, during the site inspection of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and National Task Force (NTF) on Covid-19 in Taguig City's mega quarantine facility.
Galvez meanwhile chided critics of the national government's response efforts to the pandemic.
“Hindi natin kaya ang Covid kung wala ang mga LGUs. Maraming iba ang tumutuligsa sa atin (We cannot defeat Covid-19 without the LGUs. Many of them criticize us saying) that our fight is a failure. Sana tignan nila ang (I hope that they look at) Taguig, this is a complete local victory that we," he said.
Galvez also cited Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano's leadership to combat the Covid-19 outbreak in the city as "very dynamic and strategic, forward-looking, and has a long-term response".
“Despite the challenges, almost 7,000 ang Covid-19 cases at nakita natin isa kayo sa economic hub at talagang napakahirap i-control ng movement ng different workers (and the city is considered an economic hub where the movement of different workers is very difficult to control), and the same time may (there are ) densely populated areas, pero nakita natin (yet we can see) this is our local victory, this is our national victory,” he added.
Galvez said that through Cayetano's efforts and strategies, the city government had able to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases in the area.
"You can handle, you can dance, and you can maintain and manage the virus. That's is an act of good leadership. Sa standard namin sa IATF, talagang ang Taguig ang isa sa mga pinakamodelo (In our standard at the IATF, Taguig is really one of the best models)," he told Cayetano.
Galvez also commended the city government's efforts to address the psychological impact of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, NTF deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon backed Galvez's remarks on the efforts and strategies of Taguig City to halt Covid-19 transmission.
"Sa numero pa lang na nakita natin ngayon isa po ang Taguig sa mga iilang LGUs na magaling sa lahat (Based on the numbers that we see so far Taguig City is one among best LGUs, sa tracing, testing, isolation, treatment and integration," Dizon said, citing that the 98 percent of Covid-19 cases in the city have already recovered from the disease.
However, Dizon reminded the city officials to continue its efforts against the dreaded disease even if the transmission of the disease would slow down.
"Pero tandaan po natin medyo mahaba-habang labanan pa po ito. Hindi pa ito matatapos this year, magpa-Pasko tayo na nandito pa rin ang Covid (We must bear in mind that it will be a long battle. It may not end this year and we may celebrate Christmas with Covid-19 is still here)," Dizon said, noting that the national government will always support the city's efforts and strategic plan to contain the crisis outbreak.
The city government has opened the section 1 of the 500-bed Lakeshore mega quarantine facility which can accommodate around 70 Covid-19 patients.
The other sections of the isolation facility are expected to be opened over the next few weeks.
The government has earlier vowed to intensify its capacities on testing, tracing, isolating, and treating Covid-19 patients in preparation for the country's shift to a more relaxed community quarantine status while balancing economic reboot and to contain new Covid-19 cases.
