Taguig celebrates National Heroes Day
The City of Taguig led by Mayor Lino Cayetano joined the commemoration of National Heroes Day on Aug. 26, with a wreath-laying activity and rites at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio.
n his speech, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano who represented President Rodrigo Duterte, recalled the heroes who dedicated their lives for Filipinos to enjoy the liberties they have today, and the "unnamed heroes who have shed blood, tears in defense of the nation and the values it represents."
The Speaker exalted the Overseas Filipino Workers and athletes preparing for the Southeast Asian Games, uniformed personnel such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and law enforcers such as the National Bureau of Investigation for their many sacrifices, noting that ordinary Filipinos "learn to embody" the heroism of the nation's heroes through small deeds of heroism.
"As we commemorate National Heroes Day, President Duterte calls on our fellow Filipinos to emulate the patriotism of the heroes who came before us by by supporting the government's nation-building efforts especially our campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, terrorism, poverty and environmental degradation," the Speaker said.
Apart from the Speaker and Mayor Lino, present during the event were Senator Bong Go, Taguig Rep. Lani Cayetano, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, National Capital Region Police Office director Guillermo Eleazar, AFP Chief of Staff Benjamin Madrigal, ambassadors, among others.
