The San Juan City local government announced that it is fully prepared for the resumption of classes for SY 2022-2023 and the subsequent return to face-to-face classes.

“Kahapon (Friday) I had a local school board (LSB) meeting at kausap ko ang ating city schools division superintendent at ganun din ang ibat ibang miyembro ng LSB so we are all set for the opening of classes. In fact, even prior to the school break, lahat ng paaralan namin ay nag face-to-face classes na (Yesterday, I had a local school board meeting where I spoke with our city schools division superintendent as well as other members of the LSB. We all agreed that the city is ready for the opening of classes. In fact, even prior to the school break, all of our schools have transitioned to face-to-face classes),” San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said in an interview with DZRH.

He added that for this month, the city government is already preparing for the full implementation of face-to-face classes in its public schools by November such as the allocation of funds for the transition, opening of new school buildings and multi-purpose halls, as well as wooden basketball courts.

By the month of October, the local chief said that all classrooms in every public school in San Juan will have their own internet connection and wi-fi. Smart TVs will also be installed for a more high-tech and digital learning experience for its students.

On May 2, the city government announced that it has further boosted the capabilities of all free internet connections it has installed in the students’ homes.

“Ang mga libreng internet connection po sa inyong mga tahanan na ipinakabit ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng San Juan para sa online education sa pamamagitan ng Learning Management System (LMS) ay ganap nang binuksan bilang Full Service Fiber Optic Internet Connection (All free internet connections installed in your homes by the San Juan City Government for the online education of students through the Learning Management System have been fully opened as a Full Service Fiber Optic Internet Connection),” Zamora said in a Facebook post.

“Ang libre at mabilis na internet connection na ito ay maaaring gamitin para sa pag-aaral, research, panonood, pakikipag-ugnayan sa inyong mga mahal sa buhay, paggamit ng iba’t ibang apps at social media sites at iba pang online services at activities (The fast and free internet connection may now be used for studying, researching, watching, connecting with your loved ones, in using different apps and social media sites, and other online services and activities),” he added.

“We were able to fulfill a major campaign promise which is to make San Juan a smart city, although not yet 100 percent, but we were able to provide 1 is to 1 tablets to all our public school students, something the previous administration said was impossible. They also have dedicated fiber-optic internet connection in their homes for online education. That’s 7,000 households with modems for public school students,” Zamora said during his Manila Bulletin MB Hot Seat interview last April 4.

San Juan first reopened its face-to-face classes on February 10 at Pedro Cruz Elementary School.

Zamora explained that to ensure the students’ safety, the minimum public health and safety protocols are being strictly observed.
