San Juan City suspends classes for SEA Games
San Juan City announced on the suspension of classes in all levels in the city which will host some of the most anticipated events for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora declared that classes on Dec. 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 are suspended as the city government “highly encourages our youth to witness firsthand the SEA Games and to recognize the value of the games to the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region – socially, economically, and politically.”
The 3-on-3 basketball game and the e-Sports, one of the most talked-about games as it will have its debut in the SEA Games this year, are scheduled to take place at the Filoil Flying-V Arena on Col. Bonny Serrano in San Juan on Dec. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
E-Sport players will vie for six gold medals. The event will be split into three gaming methods—for PC, for mobile, and for console.
“In support of this, suspension of classes in all levels for both public and private schools is hereby declared for the school days coinciding with the abovementioned game days in the City of San Juan,” Zamora said in a memorandum addressed to all public and private school principals in the city.
The suspension of classes, according to the mayor, also seeks to ease the expected high-volume of traffic along the city’s roads during the games and “ensure the timely, efficient, and orderly transport of the participating athletes, teams, and country officials.”
Zamora said, “Let us show them the hospitality of San Juaneños! Cheer for Team Philippines and recognize all the great athletes in the SEA Games!”
