Active Covid cases in San Juan hit 1,171
The city of San Juan logged 1,171 active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, with 180 new cases added on Sunday, Jan. 9, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.
The city was already on the brink of the thousandth mark on Saturday, Jan. 8, recording 991 active COVID-19 cases.
The barangays with the most active cases on Jan. 9 are Greenhills with 144 cases, West Crame with 98 cases, Sta. Lucia with 97 cases, Batis with 78 cases, and Little Baguio with 73 cases.
The barangays with the lowest active cases are San Perfecto with 20 cases, Progreso with 22 cases, Isabelita with 24 cases, and St. Joseph with 25 cases.
The leap in cases was recorded amid the resurgence of COVID-19 cases nationwide due to the loosening of city restrictions and the Omicron variant.
San Juan had five cases on Dec. 14, the lowest the city has recorded.
During the holiday season, the number of infected individuals increased from 11 active cases on Dec. 25 to 152 active cases on Jan. 1.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora urged residents to stay vigilant and alert amid the current surge. He asked them to continue observing social distancing, and to sanitize and disinfect regularly.
Zamora also encouraged residents to get vaccinated and contact the city health office to inquire about any COVID-19 related concerns.
As of Jan. 9, San Juan city has 17,026 confirmed cases, 15,516 recoveries, and 339 deaths.
