A week after the closure for demolition of the Tandang Sora flyover in Quezon City, there is already a noticeable improvement in the traffic along Commonwealth Avenue, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said they have been receiving good feedback since the closure of the flyover – that travel time of motorists and commuters using the road had been reduced by about 15 minutes.
She speculated that the flyover might have been the cause of heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue as motorists tended to avoid the intersection and its traffic lights by going up the flyover, which would be demolished to give way to the construction of the Metro Rail Transit System Line 7.
On Monday, March 4, MMDA Command Center commander Bong Nebrija said the agency had received complaints from drivers and commuters about the adjusted loading and unloading zone near the flyover.
He said the agency would indicate with signs the loading and unloading zones in the area to inform the drivers, adding that a new overpass for pedestrians would also be put up.
